Kulma xtaqet Ruth li binha jkollu ħajja aħjar minn tagħha. Sempliċi. Imma mhux faċli. Ruth tirrakonta dak li għaddiet minnu u kif dan il-garigor dejjaq ta’ faqar li daħlet fih, kultant tħoss li kapaċi titilgħu u kultant iċċedi u tinżel iktar ’l isfel. Iċ-ċirkostanzi u n-nies ta’ madwarha, kultant jiswew mitlqu deheb u kultant iħalluha ta’ fuqha senduqha.

Id-dramm oriġinali ta’ André Mangion, b’direzzjoni ta’ Toni Attard, jpoġġi lenti fuq il-qagħda tal-faqar f’Malta tal-lum. Lil hinn mill-istatistika, benefiċċji soċjali, pagi baxxi u inflazzjoni, kultant il-faqar mhuwiex biss kwistjoni ta’ flus. Ir-rakkont huwa fittizju imma l-istejjer u l-karattri jaf tiltaqa’ magħhom kuljum. Michaela Farrugia, Josette Ciappara, Charles Sammut, Sharon Bezzina u Clint Chricop jinterpretaw karattri differenti fi dramm kontemporanju li jħallik bla nifs.

Permezz ta’ din il-produzzjoni, se nkunu qed nagħmlu ġabra ta’ ikel għal 75 familja mgħejjuna mill-YMCA. Jeħtieġ li l-prodotti jkunu ‘long shelf life foods’ (ikel li jdum biex jiskadi). Udjenzi huma mħeġġa jagħtu d-donazzjonijiet tagħhom qabel il-produzzjoni jew inkella, d-donazzjoinijiet jistgħu jintbagħtu l-’Creative Incubator’ bejn it-Tnejn u l-Ġimgħa mid-9am sas-1pm. Ta’ Fuqha Senduqha hi ko-produzzjoni bejn Udjenza u Spazju Kreattiv, bl-għajnuna tal-Kunsill Malti għall-Arti.

Ta' Fuqha Senduqha tħabbret bħala finalista fl-edizzjoni 2023 tal-Premju għall-Arti fil-kategorija tal-Aqwa Produzzjoni tas-Sena Teatru.

All Ruth wanted was for her son to have a better life than she did. Simple, but not easy. Ruth recounts a series of events that have led her to fall into the depths of the poverty line. At times she is hopeful and pushes on to bring herself out of the situation she is in however, she falls victim to circumstance in other moments leaving her with nothing or very little.

Penned by André Mangion, under the direction of Toni Attard, the play shines a light on poverty in Malta. The play goes beyond statistics, social benefits, low wages and inflation showing audiences that poverty is not always a question of wealth. The story is a fictional one but the characters are everyday people that are deeply rooted in Maltese reality. Michela Farrugia, Josette Ciappara, Charles Sammut, Sharon Bezzina and Clint Chricop make-up the exceptional cast, playing different characters, that bring this contemporary play to life.

In collaboration with YMCA, the production will be holding a food drive to help 75 families that are currently being supported by the YMCA. Ideally, donated products are to be long shelf life foods and may be handed in before the performances. Donations may also be sent to the Creative Incubator from Monday to Friday between 9am to 1pm.

Ta’ Fuqha Senduqha is an Udjenza and Spazju Kreattiv co-production and supported by Arts Council Malta.

Ta' Fuqha Senduqha was announced as a finalist in the 2023 edition of Premju għall-Arti in the category of Production of the Year for Theatre. DOWNLOAD YOUR PROGRAMME

A Must See Play! A big WELL DONE to ALL involved. Professional, emotional, down-to-earth play that sets one reflecting.. A very valid theme. Should be filmed and shared to create more awareness of poverty and misjudgement.

Maria Ciappara

This is a One Act Emotional, Realistic, Intense, Original Production….each story telling will astound you personally, in many ways you would never imagine! The Actors took on quite a challenge, delivering their craft with such passion….not easy Roles to take on!! One particular scene struck me… Josette Ciappara , iż żija, was impressive in transforming herself , from one different character, into a completely different one , within minutes and in the same space, cleverely executed by effective lights. Q & A is always a great idea for audience interraction. Props were all interestingly donated…and all was so incredibly timed well at backstage , with so many fast paced quick changes of scenes! Written & Produced with such care and concern….Bravi… you were all spot on!!

Eżami tal-kuxjenza. Vjaġġ ta’ emozzjonijiet. Tħoss qalbek tingħafas u tħoss li s-skiet enormi li jiddomina f’ċertu waqtiet qiegħed iwassal stedina lill-udjenza. Stedina sabiex nagħmlu eżami tal-kuxjenza, biex nirriflettu kemm minn dak li ntqal tul dan id-dramm jirrapreżenta djalogu li pparteċipajna fih, b’mod attiv jew passiv. Stedina biex naraw kemm mill-ġudizji li rajna quddiem għajnejna huma ġudizji li għamilna aħna, mhux biss dak il-ħin stess, iżda ta’ kuljum. ‘Ta’ Fuqha Senduqha’ hija riflessjoni ta’ frammenti ta’ stejjer li naraw u nisimgħu dwarhom kuljum u stedina biex ma ndawrux wiċċna n-naħa l-oħra.

Permezz Ta’ Fuqha Senduqha’ għexna l-istorja ta’ Ruth, dak li ġralha, dak li ħasset, dak li ħasbet. Is-skiet qawwi li kultant iddomina fis-sala ċkejkna kien qed iwerżqilna f’widnejna biex nagħmlu eżami tal-kuxjenza, biex naħsbu kemm mill-kummenti u ġudizji li ntqalu waqt id-dramm ġieli espremejnihom aħna jew ntqalu fi djalogu li pparteċipajna fih forsi b’mod passiv, jekk mhux attiv. ‘Ta’ Fuqha Senduqha’ hi riflessjoni ta’ frammenti ta’ stejjer li naraw u nisimgħu ta’ kuljum u stedina biex ma ndawrux wiċċna n-naħa l-oħra.

Powerful, raw, thought provoking. Once again Udjenza deliver a thought provoking genius of a play that shines a light on an often disregarded reality in our back yard. The constant emotion during the play was discomfort. Shuffling in my seat wondering what I was really feeling, guilt, shame, sadness? Well it was all of that, but yet… The day after it dawned on me. The charaterisation of the events unfolding, challenged and questioned my position of privilege. A privilege of basic needs of a home, a job, friends and supporting family. Which we all take for granted. Also was I guilty of the prejudice played out in front of me? Was I quick to judge a situation or the dishelleved, seeminlgy hysterical woman? Have I or am I contributing to the hidden rise of people ‘living on the edge’? How so? Ta Fuqha Senduqha tells me probably, yes, to a lesser or greater degree, and sadly we all have, unwittingly so. And that’s not all of it. The play is a complex web of other underlying issues weaving in and out as the actors take us through the stories, that come to a surprising full circle.

Brilliant piece of work! Production kept my attention throughout, the energy didn’t falter once. Characters were three-dimensional, relatable – script well written and I enjoyed seeing the director’s vision and approach to it. It’s a heavy story that needs to be told and seen, such scenes well balanced by the comical moments. The cast was spot on and supported each other well throughout. Can’t recommend it enough – and please give as much as you can for the food bank even outside performance days. Well done!

Produzzjoni mill-aqwa, b’messaġġ kurrenti u relevanti, mwassal b’mod makak li jġiegħlek tibqa’ tisma’, tipprova tifhem u tarbel fi ħsibijietek sa l-aħħar. U għalkemm toħroġ mit-teatru kkonfondut u b’moħħok splodut, it-tagħlima tasal għand kulħadd. Tagħlima li jekk ma tidħolx mill-bieb ewlieni ta’ qalbek, tidħol mit-tieqa mbexxqa tal-kuxjenza. Iċ-ċirkostanzi li nsibu ruħna fihom jafu jġibulna ħajjitna miżerja, imma mbgħad huwa l-ġudizzju, is-sistema tal-istat, u l-ipokresija grassa, li tkompli tħawwad fil-borma ta’ ħtijja u piena mhux xierqa. Allura int, x’tista’ tagħmel biex twaqqaf dan iċ-ċiklu ta’ tbatija?
