Live Journalism in theatre aims to bring journalism and theatre together, helping to put a public face to journalism and provide background and context to the stories that dominate our headlines. Directed by Herman Grech, Times of Malta Editor-in-Chief, journalists and theatre practitioners will collaborate to present news stories and investigative reports through engaging storytelling, multimedia presentations, and interactive elements. This innovative format, gaining popularity in Europe and the US, involves presenting stories to live audiences, making journalism more relatable and fostering a deeper understanding of its critical role. The project by Udjenza will unfold in five phases: research and development, testing, creation, production and evaluation, culminating in six performances at Spazju Kreattiv in 2026. The project aims to increase transparency in the media, rebuild trust with journalists, foster community engagement, and enhance media literacy. The creative process and outcomes will be shared with other live journalism practitioners overseas, connecting the project to a global reach.
